John F. Kennedy High School’s mission is to develop our island students to become globally primed high achievers.
Our ESLRs: John F. Kennedy High School students will be responsible citizens, problem solvers, effective communicators, and technologically literate.
ATTENTION EVERYONE
- UPCOMING HOLIDAYS: Friday November 11th is Veteran’s Day and Thursday, Nov. 24th is Thanksgiving Day. There will be no classes on these days. Classes resume Friday, Nov. 25th, the first of five make up days and students are expected to attend classes
- Parent teacher conference is scheduled for Thursday NOVEMBER 10, 2011 from 7am to 12:15. There will be NO classes on this day.
- Cork boards have been installed on the walls throughout the campus. All signs and information must be posted on these bulletin boards with staples. No taped posters on the walls will be allowed. The adhesive from the tape damages our walls so please help us keep our campus presentable.
- On November 9th (Wednesday), 111 students from Sakata HS will be on campus for a student exchange. Thanks to the Japanese and Chamorro classes for hosting our guests!
- The November PTSA meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 P.M. in the cafeteria
- SENIORS AND PARENTS: There will be a FAFSA and college application workshop for seniors who want to go to college and need money for school. Sign up with Mr. Ballares in the Counseling Office to attend. The workshop will be on Nov. 10th during Parent Teacher Conference from 11:00am – 12:00pm in the Library Media Center for seniors and parents. If you have any questions, please feel free to see Mr. Ballares in the Counseling Office or have your parents call him at 642-2100 ext. 4357.
- The YEARBOOK STAFF will be taking pictures from October 24 – November 11 for students who have missed Picture Day. Admin requires all students to have an ID. Therefore, the Yearbook Staff will be making laminated copies of students ID’s for $2.00.
- KONICHIWA ISLANDERS!! The Japanese Club will be participating in the Song Festival at Agana Shopping Center November 12, 2011. We encourage all interested in the Japanese culture to participate with us! If you are interested, please pay us a visit during our meetings on Wednesday during lunch in F102 from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. ARIGATO!!
CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
- ATTENTION SENIORS: If you have not signed up for your senior portraits, you must go to B213 to reserve your date ASAP. Remember, if your senior portrait is not taken, you WILL NOT be in the yearbook.
- CLUBS AND ORGANZATIONS MUST REMOVE ALL POSTERS ANNOUNCING THEIR EVENTS IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT ENDS. The Posters become an eyesore and adds to the litter around campus. Please do your part in taking care of our brand new campus! Ms. Gutierrez and Mrs. Rosete
- DUE TO THE LIMITED SPACE ON CAMPUS, CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS MUST HOLD THEIR MEETINGS IN AN ADVISOR’S CLASSROOM. PRIORITY FOR THE LIBRARY/MEDIA CENTER WILL BE FOR OUTSIDE PRESENTORS AND GUESTS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.
- Project Isa-ta Groups meeting in the Library every Monday and Wednesday during Lunch. Please see Mr. Seerengan for more details.
- FUTURE EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION: Are you interested in becoming a teacher? Join the Future Educators Association NOW! Meetings are every Thursday in A202 during lunch. See you there!
- MARINE DEFENDERS: Meetings are Thursday at lunchtime.
- JAPANESE CLUB: will be holding meetings every Wednesday in F202. Serious members who want to help fundraise and may partake in the Japan trip are invited to attend. Club participation will determine one’s eligibility to take part in the Japan trip. Please be prompt.
- Love TRIVIA? Want to have fun doing it? Join the Academic Challenge Bowl! Meetings are every Thursday during lunch in F102. See Mr. Portin for more details.
- I-Recycle Club: Meetings every Wednesday at Lunch in Room D223.
- Filipino Club (UFSA): Meetings every Thursday at Lunch in Room D223.
- Tourism Hospitality Society will be holding its regular meetings every Friday during lunch in Room G104.
- Robotics Club will be holding its regular meetings every Thursday during lunch in Room D114.
- WAVE CLUB: Welcome All Visitors enthusiastically – Come join the fun and activities!! Meetings will be held every Wednesday in room A207.
- MICRONESIAN YOUTH CLUB meeting every Wednesday during lunch in room F104.
- Do you want to participate in a WALL MURAL or are you just interested in learning or strengthening your artistic ability? Join the Creations Art Club today!!! Club meeting every Thursday in room D103 or for more information please see Mr. Quinata.
- INTERFAITH BIBLE CLUB: meetings will be held every Monday during lunch. Come read and discuss the Bible! Request a teacher to write you a lunch pass to D218.
- AUTOMOTIVE CLUB: meetings will be held every Wednesday during lunch in G103.
ATTENTION STUDENTS:
- Attention Islanders: The WAY picnic is scheduled for November 19, 2011 at Ypao Beach. Come down and join the fun!
- WAY Picnic is coming up and there will be spirit week activities in the court yard during lunch Nov. 14-18th. Be ready to have fun! See you there!
- The Salvation Army is sponsoring a canned food drive and are requesting rice, canned goods and other non-perishable items. All donations will be collected by the WAY Councils on Nov.23rd during homebase. We challenge each homeroom to see who best demonstrates the islander spirit by collecting the most donations this holiday season.
- The Class or 2013 is holding auditions for “Got Talent 2?” pm November 7 – 16. Auditions will be held in D106 during lunch and afterschool from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Be Ready to present your act of song, dance, or comedy. TEACHERS:
- There will be a Faculty Meeting on Wed., Nov. 9 from 1:40 - 2:40 P.M. in the media center. A special Faculty Meeting will be held on Wed., Nov. 16 from 1:40 - 2:40 P.M. Emphasis will be the 2011 SAT 10 Scores. Attendance is mandatory.
- BUDGET 2013: Teachers if you plan to reclassify between October 1, 2012 – September 30, 2013, you must fill out and submit the form sent by email from Tessie Cruz. The deadline was Friday, October 28; if you haven’t submitted, please do so IMMEDIATELY. If you do not, you may jeopardize your reclassification pay. - There are a few students that are not cleared with the nursing office. They are pending their PPD testing. Notices have been placed in your box, please send those students to the Nursing Office to be sent home until they are cleared by the nurse. V. Ballares

- JUNIORS AND SENIORS: The University Honors College (UHC) at Boston University is looking for a few exceptional students interested in Biomedical Engineering, Music Performance, English, Astronomy and Physics, and Human Physiology. For more information visit bu.edu/uhc.
- SENIORS: JFKHS just received S.A.T. Fee Waivers for SY 2011-2012. Having a Fee Waiver for the S.A.T. gives you an opportunity to take the test without a fee. Interested students who will be taking the S.A.T. in December/January and meeting the eligibility criteria for receiving a S.A.T. Waiver, please see Mr. J. Pilarca immediately in the counseling office.
- Boston U Trustee Scholarship Competition. Emphasis: Academics and Leadership. Deadline Dec 1. Visit the website: bu.edu/admissions/trustee
- Gates Millennium Scholarship is available for outstanding minority group students with financial need. Please visit www.gmsp.org. The deadline is Jan 11, 2012.
- Attention Juniors and Seniors: Interested in attending college in Washington? Saint Martin's college is a liberal arts Catholic University in Lacey, Washington with three professional schools- education, business and engineering. A representative from Saint Martin's will be on campus on Nov. 16 to share more about it. If interested, sign up with Ms. Santiago in the counseling office, before, after school and during lunch time.
- COLLEGE ACCESS CHALLENGE GRANT (CACGP) Participants: CACGP Tutors are available every Tuesday and Thursday during lunch in the library.
