John F. Kennedy High School’s mission is to develop our island students to become globally primed high achievers. 

Our ESLRs: John F. Kennedy High School students will be responsible citizens, problem solvers, effective communicators, and technologically literate.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

  • *Yearbook Staff and members: There will be a meeting this Friday in the Bandroom, D118. See you there!
  • JFK Dance Club: Meeting every Wed in D213. Sign up for auditions in D213 during lunch. Auditions are Wed & Fri, Dec 7 and 9.
  • Chinese Cultural Club (CCC): Meeting every Friday at Lunch in A205.
  • Calling all ARTISTS! The Creations Art Club will be having meetings every Thursday in D103. There will be a guest speaker coming in this month. More information will be announced soon!
  • ATTENTION SENIORS: The last chance to order your cap and gown will be on December 5, 6, 7, 19, 20, and 21. Don’t wait until last minute. Cap and gown orders are $65 for more info, please go to B213.
  • You like racks or enjoy a good game of pool? Come join the Billiards Club! Show your talent and skills or even try to become the very best. Meetings are on WEDNESDAYS in Rm B201.
  • FUTURE EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION: Are you interested in becoming a teacher? Join the Future Educators Association NOW! Meetings are every Thursday in A202 during lunch. See you there!
  • MARINE DEFENDERS: Meetings are Thursday at lunchtime.
  • JAPANESE CLUB: will be holding meetings every Wed in F202. Serious members who want to help fundraise and may partake in the Japan trip are invited to attend. Club participation will determine one’s eligibility to take part in the Japan trip.
  • I-Recycle Club: Meetings every Wednesday at Lunch in Room D223.
  • Filipino Club (UFSA): Meetings every Thursday at Lunch in Room D223.
  • Tourism Hospitality Society will be holding its regular meetings every Friday during lunch in Room G104.
  • Robotics Club will be holding its regular meetings every Thursday during lunch in Room D114.
  • WAVE CLUB: Welcome All Visitors Enthusiastically! Meetings will be held every Wednesday in room A207.
  • MICRONESIAN YOUTH CLUB meeting every Wednesday during lunch in room F104.
  • Do you want to participate in a WALL MURAL or are you just interested in learning or strengthening your artistic ability? Join the Creations Art Club today!!! Club meeting every Thurs in D103 or for more information please see Mr. Quinata.
  • INTERFAITH BIBLE CLUB: meetings held every Monday during lunch in D218. Come read and discuss the Bible!

ATTENTION STUDENTS:

  • *JUNIORS AND SENIORS: The STEP-UP High School Program provides hands-on summer research experience for High School students interested in exploring research careers in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social sciences. The program provides exposure to the core NIDDK mission areas of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic diseases; digestive diseases and nutrition; kidney, urologic and hematologic diseases.   If interested, the deadline to apply is Feb. 15, 2012. See your Science teacher, counselor, or Dr. Roberto- Assistant Principal- for more information.
  • *PEP RALLY: There is a pep rally for the 2nd quarter sports teams on Thursday and Friday during lunch in the center courtyard. Athletes, please be there!!!
  • JFKHS presents, “A Winter’s Dream,” our Annual Winter Formal on December 23 at the Onward, Oasis Ballroom from 6 – 10pm. $27 for single and $50 for couples. Come by B102 or see any WAY officer for tickets.
  • SENIORS: Class shirts are now being pre-sold for $12. Purchase your shirt and represent your class! Please see Secretary Artken Cada for more information or go to B213 during lunch.
  • ALL STUDENTS: The Sinangan-ta Youth Movement will be holding Poetry Slam Workshops every Tuesday (11/29) after school from 2:00 – 3:30pm in D212.
  • Yearbooks are now available for reserve for $35. You may place an order during lunch in D118 every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday OR see any yearbook staff. Reserve your copy while supplies last!

 

FACULTY AND STAFF:

  • *CLASS OF 2013 would like to thank Mrs. Krisinda Aguon for donating Christmas wrapper. THANK YOU!
  • *FYI: Effective immediately, Dr. Kelly Sukola will be conducting her administration internship with the JFKHS Administration Leadership Team. Please give her your upmost respect and cooperation as she will be working closely with the administrators, teachers, and staff until the end of the school year.
  • Our JFK Christmas Party will be on Wednesday Dec 21, 2011 at Westin Resort ~Somnak Ballroom from 6:00-12:00pm . The theme is “Winter Wonderland” and the attire for the event is semi-formal. Intimate Dinner will include an Asian Salad Bar ~ Seafood ~ Lamb chops and Christmas Desserts. There is still time to RSVP and full payments of $28.00 per person will be collected Wednesday 12/14 thru Friday 12/16 at the Faculty lounge or in F107 with Mrs. Garvilles. Thank You for all your support and we hope to see you all there!
  • Faculty and Staff: The Yearbook Club would like to inform you that Merloj Restaurant will stop selling food plate Dec. 9-28 due to renovations. We will not be taking orders during that time. Thank you for understanding and have a great day!
  • ANY AND ALL FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES MUST BE APPROVED BY THE ADMINISTRATORS. Student activities (chartered clubs/organizations) and Standing Committees MUST seek the approval of Mrs. Rosete and Ms. Gutierrez. Athletics MUST seek the approval of Mrs. Hanzsek and Ms. Gutierrez. If appropriate signatures are not obtained, the activity is PROHIBITED and ma y result in disciplinary action. See Ms. Gutierrez if you have questions.
  • JOB ANNOUNCEMENT for the following programs: 2011-2012 Eskuelen Puengi, 2011-2012 Summer School, and 2011-2012 Special Education Summer ESY.   • Asian & Pacific Islander Scholarship. $$$ for College.   Deadline Jan 13.

  • JUNIORS AND SENIORS: The University Honors College (UHC) at Boston University is looking for a few exceptional students interested in Biomedical Engineering, Music Performance, English, Astronomy and Physics, and Human Physiology. For more information visit bu.edu/uhc.
  • SENIORS: JFKHS just received S.A.T. Fee Waivers for SY 2011-2012. Having a Fee Waiver for the S.A.T. gives you an opportunity to take the test without a fee. Interested students who will be taking the S.A.T. in December/January and meeting the eligibility criteria for receiving a S.A.T. Waiver, please see Mr. Pilarca in the counseling office.
  • Gates Millennium Scholarship is available for outstanding minority group students with financial need.   Please visit www.gmsp.org. The deadline is Jan 11, 2012.

 

INTERSCHOLASTIC SPORTS

  • *GIRLS Basketball (Varsity and JV): There will be a TEAM photo for the yearbook on Friday, Dec. 16 during lunch. Meet in front of the Girls’ Locker Room. Bring BOTH top and bottom uniforms.
  • *2nd QUARTER ATHLETES: please be at the pep rally in the center courtyard on Thursday and Friday. THANK YOU!
  • BOYS BASKETBALL: Try-outs are Monday - Tuesday, December 12 - 15 at the Tamuning Gym from 2:00 - 4:00pm. You must have an athletic clearance form from Mr. Antonio, Athletic Director, to try out.
  • TENNIS: Interested in joining 3rd quarter Sport of Tennis? Please pick up a physical and participation form from Mr. Pilarca in the Counseling Office. Official Practice starts December 12, 3:30 at the JFK Tennis Courts. No Physical = No Practice! Please also see the Athletic Director, Mr. Jay Antonio for more information.
