Guam- Not only politicians had much to say about the Governor Felix Camacho's state of the island address. Different leaders from Government of Guam agencies are chiming in on how they feel about the Governor's vision and where it will take them from here.
Guam Police Department Chief of Police Paul Suba and University of Guam President Dr. Robert Underwood commended Governor Camacho's speech, saying it was the "perfect example of what kind of leader he is" and that "the speech had a great tone".
While some department heads talked about the overall direction of Camacho's vision, others chose to go more into detail. Department of Public Works Director Larry Perez says while a contract will be issued out in the next 30 days to build a temporary place for John F. Kennedy High students, DPW also has another deadline to the procurement process to build the permanent JFK facility.
Guam Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lorilee Crisostomo also commented on the Governor calling upon local leaders to handle the dump responsibility. Crisostomo says her agency has always played an active role, especially with the Dandan landfill permitting process. She adds that everything is still on schedule. Crisostomo does note while her team is cooperating with U.S. EPA, their relationship is tense. She feels Guam EPA is on a one way street because
the District Court ordered her agency to submit monthly reports on the permitting process, and not U.S. EPA.
PNC also spoke with Department of Revenue and Taxation Director Art Ilagan, who supports the Governor on collecting from those who have not paid their taxes. Ilagan says tax enforcement is one of the best ways for Guam to make money.
